Security When Using ATMs and Self-Service Terminals
“Alatau City Bank” JSC draws clients’ attention to the importance of observing security measures when using ATMs, payment terminals and other self-service devices. Fraudsters use various methods to steal card data and funds, therefore it is essential to remain vigilant when performing transactions.
✅ 1. Before Using the Device
Before inserting your card or initiating a transaction, make sure that:
• the ATM or terminal shows no signs of damage, cracks or tampering;
• there are no overlays or unusual elements on the keypad;
• the card slot is not loose, protruding or suspiciously attached;
• there are no foreign objects near the screen or keypad that could be hidden cameras;
• there are no suspicious persons nearby who may be observing or attempting to assist you.
If the device appears suspicious, cancel the transaction and use another ATM.
✅ 2. Protect Your PIN Code
When entering your PIN code:
• shield the keypad with your hand;
• do not enter your PIN if someone is standing too close;
• never disclose your PIN code to third parties, even if they claim to be bank employees.
Bank employees are not entitled to request your PIN code.
✅ 3. Do Not Accept Assistance from Strangers
It is strongly recommended not to:
• allow strangers to “assist” you with transactions;
• hand over your card to others;
• enter data under instructions from unknown persons.
If the device displays an error, retrieve your card and contact the Bank’s support service.
✅ 4. Pay Attention to Unusual Device Behavior
Signs that a device may be compromised include:
• slow response or freezing;
• unusual messages displayed on the screen;
• failure to return the card or dispense cash;
• unusual clicking or mechanical sounds.
In such cases, immediately cancel the transaction and contact the Bank.
✅ 5. Be Careful When Using Payment Terminals
When making payments via self-service terminals:
• verify the accuracy of payment details;
• do not enter card data on suspicious screens;
• do not use the terminal if it displays errors or is restarting.
✅ 6. Regularly Monitor Your Transactions
After using ATMs and terminals, it is recommended to:
• review your transaction history in the mobile application;
• enable push notifications to track all account activity;
• immediately notify the Bank if any suspicious transactions are detected.
